Is Worship a Lifestyle?

Musicians saying worship is a lifestyle . . .

  • I agree with most of the sentiments in these quotes; a lot of what they say is good and helpful. I am only using them to demonstrate how common the use of the word lifestyle has become.

  • I love that worship isn’t just something that happens on one night when you gather together, but I believe it’s a lifestyle, a lifestyle where you’re constantly going after God, learning who He is and who He says that you are. We learn all that through a personal relationship with Jesus and we learn that through reading the Bible, and then we have to align our life with the Word of God: what that looks like, how to live that out, and how to live it out in a modern society.

  • We often hear the phrase "Worship is a lifestyle". What does this really mean? It simply means to live a life of love. To love extravagantly. The first commandment, to LOVE the Lord your God with ALL your heart, with ALL your soul, and with your entire mind, means exactly that. You make a heart and mind decision to continually seek first the Kingdom of God, and to OBEY the Spirit of God in your life, as He calls you on to a greater and deeper knowledge of Himself.

Every time you open up your heart in obedience to God and worship Him with all your heart, all your mind, and all your soul, our beautiful Lord responds with His magnificent presence. You need to continually be in the presence of God. Not only on Sundays, in a corporate place of worship, but in that secret place that maybe only you and the Lord will ever know about.

  • Psalmody International is a ministry that was birthed by Tom Inglis in 1984 after he had a profound encounter with the Lord regarding the subject of 'worship as a lifestyle'. It was a new concept at the time, which led Tom to develop a ‘School of Worship’ under the ministry name of Psalmody International.

The act of worship certainly draws God into our presence, but only a well-developed lifestyle of worship keeps Him there.

What would it be like if you played basketball, soccer, or some other physically demanding sport one day a week – and did nothing the rest of the week to practice or stay in shape for that sport? How well would you play on game day? That is what happens when we try to worship God on Sunday without developing a worship lifestyle Monday through Saturday.

Church is wonderful, but the rubber meets the road spiritually in our homes. Everything starts from a one-on-one encounter with God, where we as individuals bring His holy presence through prayer, study of God's Word, and obedience. This is a lifestyle of worship. If Christianity doesn't work in the home, it won't work in the church. It must start in the home, proceed to the local church, and then spread throughout the world.

Here lies the greatest challenge facing church leadership in the end times. God has confidence in the shepherds of this generation to inspire legitimate lifestyles of worship.

  • Don Moen Says Worship is More Than a Song - It’s a Lifestyle

    By Kim Jones

Don Moen has been a leader in the Christian Music industry for over 40 years. During that time, he has come to realize one very important thing - "Worship is More Than a Song. It’s a Lifestyle."

Don has said many times that he believes God put him on this planet to be "an architect who designs products and events to help people experience God’s presence in a new and fresh way." He believes that people often mistakenly decide that "worship equals music and music equals worship." He says, "The songs we offer up in worship are just a small part of a whole lifestyle of worship. Yet, we have made an industry out of the music we sing. A lifestyle of worship is something we live out 24/7, not just on Sunday morning. Worship is prayer, preaching, testimonies, God’s Word, caring for others, and of course, the songs we offer in praise and worship."

  • I find it interesting that one of the most often quoted worship passages is frequently misunderstood. John 4:23 tells us that God is seeking “worshippers.” It does not say that He is looking for “worship.” Instead of using the word which refers to the action, Jesus used the word referring to the person. A worshipper does not just offer an occasional sacrifice of praise through song. A true worshipper lives a life of worship in all that he or she says and does

  • The definition that I learned from Louie, is that worship is a response, both personal and corporate, for who God is and what He’s doing, evidenced in and through the way we live. Worship is more than singing songs. Songs have little to do with it.

  • Most people think worship is music, but it’s more than that. It’s a conversation among friends, a dialogue.

Psalm 107 says, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,” and worship is the grateful response of the redeemed.

And it’s not just singing or saying the right words; it means there’s something in your life, your posture, and your actions that seeks to honor God. I think worship is a life lived before God.

It’s much more than music and singing. There are a lot of people who can’t sing at all, but they live a lifestyle of worship!
