shabach
Strongs Concordance gives the derivation of the word and then says how it used in the KJV. The NIV Dictionary concentrates on the meaning from the context, praise, commend, glorify etc.
Often the biblical context is ignored and Strongs listing of the derivation is used as the meaning of shabach, that is, to shout or make a loud noise. The word may have evolved from this, but the biblical usage can be seen from the context. It means praise, not shouting or roaring like some say.

h7623. שָׁבַח šâḇaḥ; a primitive root; properly, to address in a loud tone, i.e. (specifically) loud; figuratively, to pacify (as if by words): — commend, glory, keep in, praise, still, triumph.
We can see from the context that shabach simply means “praise.” If the Bible means for us to shout, there are several quite specific words for shouting, loud cries etc.
